After getting IV fluids from the emergency room, Ken took her to our vet this morning. He took a good look at her and told Ken it was time to make a tough decision. The fluids hadn't helped at all. He said it was likely a cancer that was exacerbated by the analgesics she was taking for her arthritis, which, now that I think of it, could have been indicators of something else going wrong anyway. I went home for a short visit last night so I loved her and told her she was ok. Ken slept on an air mattress on the living room floor with her last night so she was not alone during the scary seizure parts. Ken was with her when they put her down and I talked to her on the phone for a second right before. We are torn apart by this. She was the most amazing dog and has loved us through a lot of tough stuff over the years.
Now I worry about Ms. Ruby. She is into the new baby for sure, but will be at a loss for what to do without Keona.

Hey Lib, Ken and Ruby (and little miss too) We will all miss Ki-nani. She was a fab pooch that garnered so much love and laughter from people and other dogs from hither and yon. She will be greatly missed. We too know what a impossible decision it is when determining how long a sick pet lives. The nice thing to remember is what a great pooch she was and how much she loved you! I'm glad that Violet got to meet such a great dog! We'll miss our little puddle hound.

I'm sorry for your loss of Keona I know how much you both loved her and what a part of your family she was. I know it must be so hard to deal with a wonderful new blessing just arriving at the same time as a wonderful long time blessing in your lives leaving. I have a feeling she was waiting to leave until she knew that Violet arrived and was in your arms. lots of love, Arthur
We are terribly sorry to hear about your buddy. I think Arthur is right.
We're thinking of you -- hugging our Shoe an extra time or two tonight! Love you guys.
bye-bye Keona - I bet it's chuck-it 24/7 there - I agree with Arthur too!
