Today is a banner day! Violet's umbilical stump finally fell off! I have been working that thing like you wouldn't believe...encouraging it to heal up. She still looks a little unhealed, but should have her regular belly button in no time. Thank goodness! Now we have to figure out if we want to save that little disgusting thing or if we want to follow the Bulgarian tradition of throwing the stump somewhere you want to figure into your child's future...like a hospital if you want a doctor...so we are thinking an accounting firm...or sometime else financially sound that will allow her to support us through our retirement...like a country music star.
We have all three been on vacation (photos to follow hopefully soon) and just got back on Friday night late. Yesterday I felt horrible, I think Violet did too, no real schedule, a lot of tears. Today Ken is off and has been sleeping his way through the day. We are preparing to head to Iowa to introduce the chipmunk to Ken's family and the rest of his hometown crowd. So I give you these recent photos of sweet Violet to hold you over...

Post bath photos...as soon as her belly button heals up she can take her first real bath. I can't wait!!! She probably can, though she is crying less often during sponge baths. I think she will like the kicking. The left one is part of that coy smile mentioned below...the right is her kissy lips. I kiss them when she pulls them out.

Playing with these giraffe feet is fun, but I get distracted when mom shoots photos.

And even more distracted by Ruby...chewing on her bone instead of Violet's toys for once.

Welcome to Elena, daughter of my pal Adrienne. She was born on our Anniversary! Violet decided to take her some lunch so we could meet her and I decided to take them some dinner since the dinners that were brought to us were so wonderful. Hopefully they liked it.

This is one of Violet's first response smiles. She went on for Papa for about 7 smiles and I caught the last one. While she doesn't break these whammies out often, when she does it is wonderful. More often she has a coy little smile that says, "I know what you want, and I'm not going to give it to you". It is still enough to melt our hearts after 4 am feedings.
